Keratin from hair: a deep-tech solution for the planet?

Although hair is usually seen as waste and thrown away in huge quantities worldwide, the unique properties of its keratin can now be used to tackle agricultural, industrial and environmental challenges. At Clic Recycle, we are turning this waste into high-impact circular solutions, showing how innovation can create value from biomaterials that would otherwise be discarded despite their enormous potential.
Through CLIC SEA, we have developed unique decontamination barriers for ports and marinas. These solutions have passed more than two years of successful real-world testing, capturing pollutants and helping to improve water quality. We are also driving the use of recycled keratin in construction, creating new opportunities to replace conventional raw materials with circular alternatives.
Through our other platform, CLIC TERRA, focused on regenerative agriculture, recycled keratin is turned into biomulch. This solution removes the need for herbicides and insecticides and helps reduce water use on farms by up to 30% per hectare. As well as improving crop and soil resilience, every tonne of keratin transformed can avoid up to 6.3 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
What sets Clic Recycle apart is our ability to combine technology and nature to develop innovative solutions. By incorporating sensors, traceability systems and data intelligence, we can measure our impact precisely and contribute to the development of future carbon credit systems.
